Much like the name implies, a dental bridge is fused to two porcelain crowns – one on either side, effectively closing the gap or the open area left by a missing tooth. A dental bridge is actually a false tooth because it closes the open area by placing a false tooth (known as a pontic) in the area where the missing tooth was. This pontic is held in place by the crowns on either side.
Used to replace one or more missing teeth, fixed bridges are actually “fixed” and cannot be taken out as removable partials dentures might be.
There are times when Dr. Files uses a cantilever bridge to close the space left by a missing tooth. This occurs when there is only one tooth on one side of the open space.
Dr. Files will listen to your concerns and assess your dental needs, explaining which bridge option is best for you. As he will explain, bridges require a commitment to consistent, good oral hygiene. When maintained properly, your bridges can last in excess of ten years!
We are happy to answer your questions and look forward to partnering with you to achieve optimal oral health... with a smile that will make you proud and stun others. That’s what Excellence in Dentistry does.
